Note: the Pterodactyl had closed "for a couple of weeks" as of 16
June, but was open again as of 14 July.
As of 17 November, it is now Genesis, a gay bar.
Note: at this time (May 2000) the Pterodactyl does not have a liquor
license.
Their
flyer states patrons are "welcome to bring beer & unfortified wine,
but
no liquor". (Updates will be made when I'm told about them)
"Well, I'm not sure how accurate my info is, beyond street addy and music
slant {according to *me*}, but the Pterodactyl has re-opened at 607 W. 5th
St., just beyond uptown Charlotte.... for anyone who would have known
this,
it is where 4808 used to be when they were downtown.... Club is open
Thursday, Friday, & Saturday nights 'till about 3:30 or so, drinks are
cheap,
cost is $3/Thurs, $4/Fri, $5/Sat, or so I am told.... haven't been on a
Fri
night yet, as they have had techno/rave music on the past couple of Fri.s
When I was there Thurs night, there were membership forms available at the
door; I have no idea what this costs, as I consumed a bit more alcohol
than I
prolly should have before leaving, and quite forgot to find out about the
memberships.... ;}
So far, on the two Sat nights and few Thurs nights I have been out there,
the
music has gone from *old* 'Dac stuff {as in ca. 1986} to some very new
dark
dance type music..... not too much industrial yet, but I think that's
because
the DJs haven't gotten too many requests for it.... Thurs nights seem to
lean
more heavily on the old stuff, but that's prolly just for the older crowd
who
shows up, I dunno...."
Directions to the Pterodactyl:
from East in town:
take Independence Blvd. to the John Belk freeway {the left-hand split} and
before you actually mefge with I-277, there will be an exit to McDowell &
6th
Sts..... take this and come up 6th St {one way} through downtown and out
the
other side.... it looks a little gloomy, but is as safe as anywhere *else*
in
town.... Look for the intersection with Graham St., and after you go
through
that, the road will curve to the right.... there will be a place where you
can make a U-turn to go "back" on W. 5th St. {one way the *other* way},
but
if you miss the U-turn, just go down to the light at Cedar St...... there
is
construction there, and Cedar is actually closed between Trade & 5th Sts.,
but you can make a U-turn at the light since nothing will be turning from
Cedar.... ;} As soon as you come under the overpass, there will be a small
parking lot on your left, and a row of warehouses on the right. There is a
big light-up sign with the Pterodactyl on it, and a door below that....
Most recent update 19 November 2000.
Complaints, etc., to Steve.
